Sketch of the positions of the trapped 389. Infanterie Division on

20 January 1943 in the factory district north of Stalingrad. This

sketch was made by  Oberstleutnant i.G. August Dangelmaier

who was Ia Officer of the 389. Infanterie Division. This division

finally ended up in the northern Stalingrad "pocket"

(Tractor Factory area) and surrendered to the Russians on 2 February 1943.

 

Oberstleutnant i.G. August Dangelmaier was born on 28 July

1903 in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Died in Weiden on 22 November

1981. Captured in Stalingrad on 2 February 1943 in the last

and northern "pocket" at Stalingrad. (Tractor Factory area)

He was released from Russian captivity during 1955.

Infanterie Regiment 544 was commanded by Oberst Kolmar von Debschitz.

(survived Russian captivity)

 

Infanterie Regiment 545 was by then commanded by Oberst I.G. Hans Steffler

(died in the Russian POW camp of Frolovo on 21 March 1943)

 

Infanterie Regiment 546 was commanded by Oberstleutnant Wilhelm Hartenstein

(missing in action at Stalingrad)
